Rain, wind, and cooler temperatures prevailed at the Portage Lakes Bass Masters Big Bass Open held on 3/29/09. However, 53 boats braved the early season weather knowing that one cast could be worth $800!! And some large bass were brought to the scale! Due to the outstanding participation at this event, we were able to pay an additional place. After 5 hours of doing battle with the bass and the elements, the top 5 finishers (collecting money for their efforts) are listed below:

1st place - Whitaker/Whitaker - 5.31 lbs ($800)

2nd place - Balas - 5.04 lbs ($600)

3rd place - Knight/Maglovsky - 4.74 lbs ($400)

4th place - Riley/Riley - 4.64 lbs ($200)

5th place - Schneider - 4.47 lbs ($100)

The Portage Lakes Bass Masters would like to extend a big "Thank You!!" to all participants. Proceeds from this open tournament help to fund our kids' fishing derby which will be held at the District #3 ponds on Saturday, May 23rd.
